Die Alfine Elf-Gangnabe hat eine Ölschmierung. Alle anderen Alfine und Nexus Naben werden mit einem speziellen Fett zum Schmieren ausgeliefert. Mechanische Probleme dieser Naben rühren oft von präventiver Wartung her, dazu gehört insbesondere die Nutzung eines ungeeigneten Fetts zur Nachschmierung. Besonders betroffen sind hier die Modelle mit Rücktrittbremsen wegen der Hitzeentwicklung dieser Versionen. | |||
Partikel aus Mettalverschleiß verunreinigen das Fett. Daher benötigen diese Naben periodische Reinigung und Nachfüllung des speziellen Fetts, das dafür sorgt, dass die Sperrklinken nicht verkleben. | |||

The hub must be disassembled into its major components, solvent cleaned, dried and re-lubricated. Still, frequent failures of grease-lubricated hubs due to water contamination have been reported in wet climates --see photos here.
