+Bandbremsen am Fahrrad sind zugangesteuert. Ein Ende des Bands ist am Hebel befestigt und das andere Ende an einem fixen Montagepunkt. Das ist eine ''einfache'' Bandbremse. Im unteren Foto schauen wir auf die Seite, die zur Nabe zeigt. Die Trommel wird auf die linke Seite der Achse geschraubt. Das Band verläuft innerhalb des Bremsenkörpers und wird auf das linke hintere Ausfallende montiert. Der Hebel ist in der 3 Uhr Stellung im Bremsenkörper befestigt und der Anschlag liegt in etwa bei der 4 Uhr Stellung. Die beiden Einstellschrauben bei 12 und 8 Uhr halten das band nah an der Trommel, so dass keine Bewegung verschwendet wird. Die Klemme, mit der die Bremse an der linken [[Kettenstrebe]] befestigt wird, verhindert, dass der Bremsenkörper um die Achse mitgezogen wird. Das ist ähnlich zur [[Rücktrittbremse]].

In the photo below, we are looking at the side which faces the hub. The drum, shown at the upper right, threads onto the left side of the axle. The band is held inside a shell, shown at the lower left, that is fitted onto the axle inside the left rear dropout. The lever attaches to the shell at 3 o'clock, and the stop is at 4 o'clock. -A bicycle band brake is not intended to be self-locking, but it is self-actuating -- the length and coefficient of friction of the band are chosen to multiply the force from the cable pull by a calculated amount. The drum turns clockwise as seen in the photo, and so it also tries to pull the band clockwise. A light pull on the lever as 3 o'clock results in tension on the band which increases counterclockwise all the way around the band to the stop at 4 o'clock.
+Eine Fahrradbandbremse soll nicht selbstsperrend sein. Sie ist jedoch selbstaktivierend - die Länge und der Koeffizient der Reibung des Bands werden so gewählt, dass sie die Kraft des Zugs um ein kalkuliertes Momentum multiplizieren. Die Trommel dreht sich (s. Foto) im Uhrzeigersinn. Ein leichter Zug am Hebel (3 Uhr) resultiert in einer Spannung im Band, die sich gegen den Uhrzeigersinn bis zum Anschlag (4 Uhr) erhöht.
