Many newer brakes have the adjusting barrel threaded directly into the upper brake arm. With these brakes, a bolt-on cable stop can still be installed to replace the anchor bolt at the lower brake arm. As shown, the cable is threaded through the adjusting barrel at the upper brake arm, then secured with a second anchor bolt. This installation is inelegant but it works.
